One of the best ways you can keep healthy and independent is to be physically and mentally active. If you get out and about as much as possible, meet friends and take up hobbies- you will feel healthier and more confident about your life.
Just because you are older does not mean that you are not able to do any physical activity. Even exercising a little every day can help prevent conditions such as heart disease and osteoporosis. Joining an exercise class will not only help you keep healthy but give you a chance to make new friends.
Giving your brain exercise is just as important as exercising your body. There are lots of activities to choose from both in the community and at home – just doing a crossword, watching TV or reading a book every day will help to keep your brain healthy and active. The more you use your memory, the less likely you are to lose it.
Older people like you across Dundee are learning how to use computers and mobile phones, taking part in Tai Chi, joining walking groups and learning new languages. Some are also volunteering to help out in their communities and making use of all the skills they have from their working life and raising families. What could you do to get active?
